About Out on a Limb
The family vineyard is situated in a unique and wondrous place, established in 2013 by Ben Carmody with partner Dee Goodgame joining a short time later. We took a risk and went ‘Out on a Limb.” Ben has had 25+ years in the industry, working in vineyards in Margaret River, Tasmania, Pemberton, Porongurup’s, Denmark & Queensland. Dee has a business background and manages the bookwork.
Ben has done most of the work himself; the planting and vineyard development. The vineyard is handcrafted and sustainably grown. We have been greatly supported by our family and we would be lost without the support from Ben’s parents Bob & Lyn, son Liam, and daughter Beth who have all toiled in the vineyard. Keeping it in the family, Cousin and good friend, Liam, is the winemaker.
The Blocks have been named after our pets who are featured on our label, each is a big part of our family – Moby’s Block – Pinot Noir – our first vintage 2018. This wine reflects the unique terroir. Riesling is Rusty’s Block, expected to be bottled 2020, and our Cats Mango and Smudge will feature in our sparkling.
The vineyard is planted in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Riesling using sustainable methods and environmentally friendly. Our Pinot clones 777 & 115 have been planted in the traditional burgundy style using close planting technique.
