About Castle Rock Estate
Towards the end of 1981, the 55-hectare property was specifically selected by the principals, Angelo and Wendy Diletti, to grow premium quality table-wine grapes. The choice was based on the altitude, well-drained soils and excellent water catchment potential. The vineyard is located on Porongurup Road in the shire of Plantagenet. It is set high in the Porongurup Ranges, which are 40 km north of Western Australia’s south coast regional centre Albany. The altitude, 350 metres, and the position of the vineyard, which exposes the vines to cooling south-east breezes results in a prolonged growing season, enables the fruit to develop maximum varietal flavour and ripeness. Winemaker Rob Diletti’s philosophy of wine making is to be as unobtrusive as possible.
Rob was named the inaugural winner of James Halliday’s Australian Wine Maker of the Year for 2015 & was a finalist in the Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year 2019. The Porongurup region with its cool winters and relatively mild summers is now rivaling Australia’s more well-known cooler climate regions as a producer of topflight wine of the principal varieties.
